The 7th African men's
handball championship was organized in 1987 in the Moroccan capital Rabat by the Confédération Africaine de Handball (CAHB). Seven teams were qualified for the finals. Defending champion Algeria won the tournament ahead of the selection of Egypt and third-placed Tunisia . The host Morocco's team finished fourth , ahead of the People's Republic of Congo in fifth and Ivory Coast in sixth. Seventh place went to the team from Angola .

With success, Algeria qualified for the 1988 Olympic handball tournament in Seoul ; Egypt received a starting place at the handball B World Cup in France in 1989 .
