The 1st African Women's Handball Championship in 1974 was held in November 1974 in the Palais des Sports d'El Menzah in Tunis and served as qualification for the 1975 World Cup . The tournament, which took place at the same time as the men's competition , was hosted by the Confédération Africaine de Handball (CAHB). The competition was overshadowed by the poor performance of the referees . In protest against the decisions of a Senegalese pairing, both Egyptian teams left during the tournament and were subsequently disqualified. The tournament was won by the hosts from Tunisia ahead of Senegal , while the team from Uganda , which had only eight players, came third.
