The 22nd African Women's Handball Championship took place from November 28 to December 7, 2016 in the Angolan capital Luanda . The host was the Confédération Africaine de Handball (CAHB). Angola won its twelfth title.

At the appeal of Tunisia , the Senegal team was disqualified after the semi-finals, as captain Doungou Camara was a player who was not eligible to play.

Egypt - originally also given a wildcard - withdrew its participation before the start of the African Cup.

All the 2016 African Cup of Nations games were played in the Pavilhão Multiusos do Kilamba , a multi-purpose hall in Luanda with a capacity of 12,000.
