African championship handball 1979

The 3rd African Women's Handball Championship 1979 (officially Challenge Marien Ngouabi ) was held from July 20 to 31, 1979 in Brazzaville and served as qualification for the 1980 Summer Olympics . The tournament, which took place at the same time as the men's competition , was hosted by the Confédération Africaine de Handball (CAHB). The host of the People's Republic of the Congo won the competition with a total of nine participating nations for the "Coupe Marien Ngouabi " ahead of the teams from Cameroon and Algeria .

Final round

The team of the People's Republic of the Congo qualified for the 1980 Olympic handball tournament. The picture shows part of the team (left) before the opening game there against the Soviet Union on July 21, 1980.

The final of the African Championship on July 31, 1979 decided the People's Republic of the Congo against Cameroon with 21:17 (13:10) or 22:20 for themselves.
