Hans-Dieter Ahlert (born February 3, 1941 in Troisdorf ) is a contemporary German painter and object artist . He lives and works in Herzogenrath .

Life

Hans-Dieter Ahlert's family lived in Troisdorf until 1954 and then moved to Düsseldorf . In his youth, painting and drawing were one of his favorite pastimes. His keen interest in art led him to numerous visits to the city's art museums. There he learned to appreciate the painters from the Düsseldorf School of Painting as well as the Impressionists. After graduating from high school, Ahlert first decided to study civil engineering at RWTH Aachen University in 1961 , which he completed in 1967 as a qualified civil engineer. As part of the course for architects and civil engineers, Ahlert was also taught freehand drawing. Some of the drawings made in this context were exhibited at RWTH. After completing his studies, Ahlert worked as a civil engineer in the field of water management / environmental protection until 2004.

Ahlert is a member of the Federal Association of Visual Artists , BBK Aachen / Euregio eV

Ahlert has autodidactically trained and educated himself in painting and modern art since his youth. In 1981 he began to devote himself more intensively to his passion for art and started an artistic activity that continues to this day. Landscape motifs, portraits, nude drawings and figurative compositions in pastel, watercolor, gouache and oil were created until 1995.

From 1996 he began to create large-format, mainly abstract compositions using mixed techniques. The works, which are built up in a multi-layered burring technique, are often painted under or over in the airbrush technique. He used chipboard, cardboard, paper and canvas as the image carrier. Natural forms and structures, the spatial experience, the relationship between light and shadow was and is primarily the focus of Ahlert's interest in his work. This preference resulted in both delicate and very powerful and exciting compositions. The works , which were created in a gestural painting style close to Informel , often convey a photo-realistic impression after a graphic revision and because of their richness of detail and were often interpreted thematically by Ahlert. Space and light play a role as well as historical topics.

In 2012 his architectural training came to the fore in his art design. Ahlert's assemblages and deformed papers painted over using the grattage technique, in which constructive considerations led to relief-like picture compositions and spatial objects, served as design elements . In the process, industrially manufactured materials such as packaging material and construction strips helped him to create space and create special light-shadow effects. This led to a pronounced three-dimensionality in his work.
