Hans-Georg von Jagow

Hans-Georg von Jagow (born December 19, 1880 in Hanover , † October 24, 1945 in Quedlinburg ) was a German officer , most recently lieutenant general and district president of Magdeburg .

Life

Hans-Georg von Jagow came from the Altmark noble family of Jagow . His uncles were Bernhard von Jagow and Ernst von Jagow . Dietrich von Jagow was his brother.

He joined the 1st Guards Regiment on March 29, 1901 as a flag boy on foot . He was born on October 18, 1901 to Ensign appointed and on August 18, 1902 Lieutenant promoted. From October 1, 1909 to July 10, 1912 he had been assigned to the Prussian War Academy and in the meantime had become a lieutenant on August 18, 1910 . Jagow was briefly assigned to the Great General Staff in Berlin for just under a month in mid-March 1913 .

With the outbreak of World War I , he was promoted to captain and Jagow and his regiment were deployed on the western front . He was then transferred to the staff of the 1st Division , which fought on the Eastern Front . Most recently he was First General Staff Officer of the 26th Reserve Division (1st Royal Württembergische) .

From February 27, 1919 Jagow was 1st General Staff Officer at the VI. Reserve Corps in the Baltic States. After being returned home, Jagow joined the staff of Military District Command I ( Königsberg ) on October 1, 1919 and a year later joined the staff of Artillery Leader III. From May 1, 1922 he was company commander in the 9th (Prussian) Infantry Regiment . After a year he was transferred as a major (from April 15, 1923) to the staff of the 3rd Division . Jagow was appointed commander of the 2nd Battalion of the 12th Infantry Regiment in Quedlinburg on May 1, 1927 and promoted to lieutenant colonel on November 1, 1927 . This was followed on October 1, 1929, the appointment as commandant of Opole and on February 1, 1930, the promotion to colonel . As such, Jagow became Infantry Leader IV on February 1, 1932 and Major General on September 1, 1933 .

While being promoted to Lieutenant General Jagow left active service on March 31, 1934 and was retired.

From April 1, 1934 to July 1, 1944, he served as district president in Magdeburg .
