Hans Carl Erdmann Freiherr von Manteuffel (born March 6, 1773 in Sorau , † March 31, 1844 in Magdeburg ) was a Prussian higher regional court president.

Life

origin

Carl was a member of the baronial Saxon - Lower Lusatian line of the von Manteuffel family . His parents were Major Christoph Friedrich von Mihlendorff Freiherr von Manteuffel (1727–1803) and Christiane Margarethe Elisabeth von Hartig from the Althörnitz house (1736–1812).

Sponsored by a scholarship from the Saxon government, Baron von Manteuffel completed a law degree at the University of Leipzig between 1792 and 1798 . He found his first job as the immediate successor of his brother August as the state syndic of the Lower Lusatia margravate . After the early death of his brother Otto (1777-1812), he followed this at the request of the king as President of the Oberamtsregierung in Lübben . After the change of sovereignty to Prussia, he moved to Ratibor as President of the Higher Regional Court .

In 1819 he became President of the Higher Regional Court in Magdeburg, the city that was to be his permanent center of life and activity. He lived there at Domplatz 4, in the immediate vicinity of the Magdeburg Higher Regional Court . The Lord Mayor August Wilhelm Francke made Manteuffel an honorary citizen of the city in 1837, and from 1839 he also sat on the Magdeburg city council on an honorary basis.

He was appointed to the Real Privy Council , combined with the address Excellency and received the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd Class with Star and Oak Leaves, and continued to be the holder of the Order of St. John .

Manteuffel had been a member of the Literary Society in Leipzig since his student days and since 1822 a member of the Magdeburg Masonic Lodge Ferdinand zur Glückseligkeit , in which he worked from 1839 as a master of the chair . As early as 1812 in Dresden, he became a member of the Dresden Freemasons' lodge Zum golden Apfel .

Freiherr von Manteuffel married in 1804 in Lübbenau with Countess Isabella Johanne Wilhelmine of Lynar (1781 to 1849) widowed by Wartensleben . Only the son Edwin von Manteuffel (1809-1885), Prussian field marshal , who married Hertha von Witzleben (1815-1899), daughter of the Prussian adjutant general and war minister Job von Witzleben (1783-1837) in 1844, emerged from the marriage Trunk continued. The daughter Isabella (born June 7, 1811; December 13, 1892) married the lawyer Heinrich von Schlieckmann (1800–1869) in 1859 .
