Hans Haller (doctor)

Hans Haller (born December 17, 1920 in Bautzen ; † November 2, 2018 ) was a German internist with a focus on diabetes mellitus , lipid metabolism disorders , endocrinopathies and the conception of the " metabolic syndrome ". He was involved in the introduction and co-development of sulfonylureas in the German Democratic Republic ; was a lecturer from 1961, from 1966 professor with teaching assignment and from 1969 full professor for internal medicine at the Medical Academy "Carl Gustav Carus" in Dresden.

Life

After his 1939 with Vitzthum-Gymnasium Dresden stored High School studied Haller until 1945 at the Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg and the University of Innsbruck medicine. After he was granted his license to practice medicine in 1945, he worked as a compulsory assistant at the Infection Hospital Dresden- Trachau , the District Hospital Ebersbach and the City Hospital Dresden-Friedrichstadt between 1945 and 1948, followed by a position as an assistant doctor at the Medical Clinic there.

After Haller in 1945 at the University of Innsbruck with the thesis "The cancer in Tyrol and Vorarlberg" doctorate was, he received in 1952 his specialist Approval of Internal Medicine and in the same year a senior physician at the Medical Clinic at the Hospital Dresden-Friedrichstadt and head of Diabetic Advice Center and the Metabolism Station.

Haller was a teacher at the Technical College for Medical Personnel in Dresden until 1958 , then moved to the Carl Gustav Carus Medical Academy in 1958 , where he became senior physician at the Clinic for Internal Medicine and lectured in internal medicine and pathological physiology. Hans Haller completed his habilitation in 1961 on the subject of "Methodical and clinical investigations on paper chromatography of urine sugar", became a lecturer in internal medicine on June 1, 1961 , professor with teaching assignment on February 1, 1966 and full professor of internal medicine on September 1, 1969 at the Medical Academy Carl Gustav Carus in Dresden.

At the same time as he was appointed to the chair for internal medicine, Haller also took over the directorate of the Academy's medical clinic on September 1, 1969. He held this office until 1975. As a result, Haller was vice-rector for natural sciences and medical research between 1975 and 1981 and, from 1979, again director of the medical clinic and head of the department for endocrine pathologies and metabolic diseases.

When he reached retirement age, the physician retired in 1986 , but continued to work on scientific committees until he left the Carl Gustav Carus Medical Academy in 1991.
