Hans Hold (born September 1, 1826 in Chur ; † April 17, 1910 there , reformed , entitled to live in Arosa ) was a Swiss politician (FDP) and brigadier .

Life

Hans Hold, son of the pedagogue Luzius Hold, studied law at the universities of Jena , Heidelberg , Paris and Zurich after attending the city and canton school in Chur , which he completed in 1849 with the state examination. During his studies in 1844 he became a member of the Burschenschaft Burgkeller in Jena.

As a result, Hold initially worked as a lawyer in Arosa , where he owned a house and property, and then from 1852 onwards in Chur. In addition, Hold, who served in the Swiss Army with the rank of brigadier , was appointed federal commissioner after the Göschen strike of 1875 .

Hans Hold, brother-in-law of Carl Hilty and Johann Bartholome Caflisch, was married to Anna, the daughter of the Chur doctor Johann Ulrich Hilty.

Political career

Hans Hold, a member of the Liberal Democratic Party, was a member of the Grisons Grand Council from 1853 to 1854, 1857 to 1858, 1860 to 1862 and 1863 to 1891 at the cantonal level . Between September 1861 and August 1862 he was represented in the small council. He also served as a district judge from 1852 to 1861. At the federal level, he was a member of the Council of States for the canton from 1871 to 1872 and 1873 to 1881 .

The centralist Hold, a connoisseur of flora and fauna, was one of the leading figures of the Graubünden liberals in the second half of the 19th century . His commitment was to the total revision of the BV and the mandatory referendum . He also supported the construction of the Chur-Langwies-Arosa road . Hold was on Florian Gengel's line , but acted as an intermediary.
