Adolph von Asch was the son of the Bavarian Major General Josef Freiherr von Asch and his wife Violanda Freiin Schrenck von Notzing and Egmating.

In 1879 Asch became a consultant in the War Ministry , in 1888 commander of the 7th Infantry Brigade in Würzburg , and in 1893 chief of the 2nd division . From June 5, 1893 to April 4, 1905, he served as Minister of War of the Kingdom and in the meantime was promoted to General of the Infantry in 1899.
