Eduard von Lutz

Eduard Maximilian Lutz , since 1864 Knight von Lutz (born January 13, 1810 in Neuburg an der Donau , † July 8, 1893 in Starnberg ) was a Bavarian Lieutenant General and Minister of War .

Life

Lutz was the son of the district forest inspector in Neuburg, Joseph Lutz († June 27, 1847) and his wife Susette, née Vergas († December 12, 1853).

Military career

He visited the cadet corps and in 1833 was a sub-lieutenant in the miner company of the Bavarian Army . Lutz was promoted to major in the 8th Infantry Regiment in the course of his officer career in 1855 . In 1859 he was appointed 2nd in command of the city and fortress of Germersheim and in the same year he was promoted to lieutenant colonel 2nd in command of the fortress Germersheim. In 1860 he became the commander of the Munich War School , and in 1862 he became a colonel and commander of the 2nd Infantry Regiment "Crown Prince" . Since August 15, 1863 he was Bavarian Minister of War in the Pfordten II cabinet . By being awarded the Order of Merit by Saint Michael , he was raised to the personal nobility on March 19, 1864 and was allowed to call himself Ritter von Lutz after his entry in the nobility register .

After the defeat by Prussia , he resigned on August 1, 1866 and was retired with a pension .

On February 1, 1870, Lutz received the character of Lieutenant General.
