Hans Plangger (born January 15, 1899 in Laas ; † June 26, 1971 in Bozen ) was a South Tyrolean sculptor .

Life

Hans Plangger attended the technical school in Laas and from 1923 studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Josef Müllner and Hans Bitterlich . After a stay in Rome, he lived as a freelance sculptor in Bolzano from 1933. Together with the German teacher Caroline Meraner, he had a son Günther Meraner in 1937 . In 1954 he married the artist Lieselotte Popp from East Prussia .

Plangger created sculptures such as statues, tombs or fountain figures made of wood, stone, clay and bronze. His works show a tendency towards the “heroic and heroic”, towards monumental designs and smooth surfaces. Expressive or abstract elements remained alien to him. Plangger was represented five times at the Great German Art Exhibition in Munich. He received a prize at the Bolzano Biennale in 1938 for the sculpture Die Aera Mussolini . He also took part in all five "Gau art exhibitions Tirol-Vorarlberg" held in Innsbruck between 1940 and 1944 and was awarded the first prize for sculpture there in 1942.

After the Second World War , Plangger became a member of the South Tyrolean Artists Association founded in 1946 .
