Hans Reimar von Kleist (born April 11, 1736 in Heiligenbeil , † March 10, 1806 in Oels ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

Hans Reimar came from the von Kleist family . He was the eleventh son of the Prussian colonel and heir to Schmenzin and Stavenow, Andreas Joachim von Kleist (1678–1738) and Marie Elisabeth von Hake (1700–1758). He had fifteen siblings, including Major General Friedrich Wilhelm Gottfried Arnd von Kleist (1724–1767).

Military career

On April 8, 1752, Kleist was accepted into the knight academy in Brandenburg an der Havel . In December 1752 he was employed as a standard junker in the cuirassier regiment "von Kyaw" of the Prussian army . There he became a cornet in 1754 and a lieutenant on December 11, 1757 . In anger the village he was wounded twice, but fought even after his personal testimony very successful in the Seven Years' War . So he had u. a. "20 cannons captured and 1,000 prisoners taken."

As a cavalry master with a patent from May 12, 1762, Kleist transferred to the hussar regiment "von Kleist" on March 4, 1762 , where he received his own squadron . On May 10, 1763 he was transferred to the "White Hussars", the "von Bohlen" hussar regiment , and on September 5, 1775, he was promoted to major . As such, he took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession . On June 20, 1787 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and commander of the hussar regiment "Eugen von Württemberg". On August 7, 1788 he was appointed colonel and finally on January 14, 1793 major general. At a review in 1789 he was awarded the Pour le Mérite order .

He took part in the fighting in Poland in 1794, but was released from participation in the First Coalition War on November 4, 1794 . On November 27, 1794 Kleist received his departure at his own request, allegedly because Blücher , who was first colonel, was preferred to him.

Since 1764 he belonged to the Minores of the cathedral chapter of Brandenburg .

family

Kleist was first married to Casparine Elisabeth Luise von Schlabrendorff (1741–1766) in 1763 , and again in 1768 to Antoinette Maria Josepha von Dumont († 1809). The second marriage resulted in four sons:

  • Hans Josef Reimar (* July 20, 1771; † January 13, 1834), Premier Lieutenant ⚭ Albertine Henriette von Hautcharmoy
  • Karl Joachim Wilhelm (* 1777; † October 17, 1806 near Nordhausen)
  • Christian Wilhelm (* 1781; † August 29, 1795)
  • Wilhelm Eugen Ludwig (* May 15, 1788; † June 15, 1809 near Zittau)
