Appreciation

In 2009, Wolfgang Scheler wrote in an obituary that Suss, “grew up in a working-class family”, had led to serving in the NVA at a “young age, internalized rejection of fascism and war” because it had been instructed to prevent the disaster from repeating itself to protect. His "intellectual abilities, his alert mind and his energy" helped him to a steep career. He continues to write:

“Finally, with him, the military academy got a boss who combined the qualities of a commander and a scientist in one person. As head of the military academy and chairman of its senate, he was able to realize yet another characteristic of military reform himself, namely to give science free rein in the military: full freedom for research and the dissemination of its results, and an end to that, as he aptly put it , the lecture hall is just another form of the parade ground.
