Hans Wall (born March 17, 1942 in Künzelsau ; † July 1, 2019 in Berlin ) was a German entrepreneur and patron . He was the founder of Wall AG , a German company based in Berlin that specializes in street furniture and outdoor advertising . He was the chairman of the “ Denk mal an Berlin ” association and was personally and financially involved in social projects . For his commitment he was honored with the Federal Cross of Merit and other awards and prizes.

Career

After completing his vocational training as a locksmith and having not completed a degree in mechanical engineering , Wall founded a company in Ettlingen in 1976 for the manufacture of street furniture and structural advertising media . As Wall AG, the company was relocated to Berlin in 1984. In the 1990s, the company expanded to Eastern Europe and the USA.

Wall led the company for a total of 31 years. During this time, Wall AG became a partner in more than 50 major cities in Europe. In 2007, Wall handed over the chairmanship to his son Daniel and took over the chairmanship of the supervisory board of Wall AG.

In 2009 Wall sold its entire company shares to the French group JCDecaux SA , today's world market leader in outdoor advertising. In March 2012, when he reached the age of 70, he stepped down as chairman of the supervisory board and left the company.

Wall died in Berlin at the beginning of July 2019 at the age of 77.

Wall was chairman of the “Denk mal an Berlin” association to promote the preservation of monuments and to preserve Berlin's cultural heritage. Among other things, he campaigned for the reconstruction of the bell tower of the Parochial Church and the reconstruction of the Schinkel Building Academy . He was chairman of the board of the Friedrich Wolf Society .

In 2000 he received the Federal Cross of Merit for his voluntary work . In 2004 the Jewish Community of Berlin honored him with the Heinrich Stahl Prize for his work against racism and xenophobia and for tolerance .

Political positions

In December 2009, Wall became active as an advertising medium for the New Social Market Economy initiative . He was a member of the FDP , which he left in 2013 and instead joined the Alternative for Germany . Wall stated that he had donated 10,000 euros once for their election campaigns. Wall AG distanced itself from the political activities of its founder. At the beginning of July 2015, Wall left the AfD and joined the newly founded Alliance for Progress and Awakening .
