Hans Karl Wilhelm Ernst von Sydow (born January 23, 1790 in Stolp ; † December 30, 1853 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major general as well as a lazy man (Lüben district).

Life

origin

His parents were general Hans Joachim Friedrich von Sydow (1762-1823) and his first wife Josepha Johanna, née Peyrennit l'Escun (1761-1829).

Military career

Sydow entered 1803 as a standard junker in the hussar regiment "von Blücher" of the Prussian army . There he became a cornet on May 27, 1806 and took part in the Battle of Auerstedt and the battles at Lychen, Waren and Criwitz during the Fourth Coalition War. After the war, he joined the Pomeranian Hussar Regiment on December 21, 1807 and was promoted to second lieutenant with a patent from May 26, 1806 .

From 1810 to 1811 Sydow was commanded for further training at the General War School in Berlin and was transferred to the Regiment of the Gardes du Corps on September 26, 1811 . There he rose to the rank of staff assistant master by mid-May 1813 . During the Wars of Liberation , he earned the Iron Cross 2nd class in the battle of Großgörschen . He also fought in the battles near Bautzen , Leipzig , Paris and the battle near Haynau . On January 9, 1815 he was promoted to Rittmeister .

On November 15, 1817, Sydow was major and on December 24, 1817 squadron chief . On May 13, 1818 he became a regular staff officer . As ad interim commander, he joined the training squadron on March 12, 1822, and was confirmed as such on June 18, 1822. On October 13, 1824, Sydow returned to the Gardes du Corps regiment. On January 18, 1825, he was accepted into the Order of St. John and in 1828 was awarded the Service Cross. On March 30, 1831 he was commissioned to lead the 7th Cuirassier Regiment and on February 10, 1832, Sydow was appointed regiment commander. This was followed by a position as commander of the Guard Cuirassier Regiment from March 30, 1832 . In this capacity, he was promoted on March 30, 1833 patent from 9 April 1833 to lieutenant colonel , and on March 30, 1835 Patent of April 16, 1835 to Colonel . In addition, on April 22, 1833, Sydow was awarded the Order of Saint Anna II. Class with diamonds, on January 19, 1834 with the Order of the Red Eagle III. Class with ribbon, on November 26, 1834 with the Order of St. Stanislaus II. Class and on June 8, 1838 with the Order of St. Vladimir III. Class excellent. After being given the character of major general, Sydow took his leave on January 4, 1840 with an annual pension of 1,750 thalers. On September 2, 1845, his previous pension was put up for disposal . He died on December 30, 1853 in Berlin and was buried in the garrison cemetery on January 3, 1854 .

In 1829, Duke Karl von Mecklenburg wrote in his assessment: "Very capable of detailed training, a somewhat high opinion of himself and stubbornness make a superior of consistent firmness necessary for him".

Sydow married on April 6, 1815 in Berlin Nannette Henriette Emilie von Zawadzky (* June 18, 1796, † September 9, 1882), a daughter of Major General Heinrich von Zawadzky .
