Heinrich von Zawadzky

Karl Heinrich Joseph von Zawadzky (born March 13, 1758 in Kornowatz , † March 30, 1820 in Potsdam ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

He was the son of Karl Joseph von Zawadzky (1727–1774) and his wife, a born von Lichnowski († 1764). His father was an electoral Saxon captain as well as Mr. auf Polanke, Kornowatz and Lips.

Military career

Zawadzky was employed in 1774 as a flag junior in the "von Mitzlaff" dragoon regiment of the Prussian army . Two years later, King Friedrich II brought him to Potsdam in the regiment of the Gardes du Corps , to which Zawadzky would belong for the next 34 years. He took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession in 1778/79 and in the campaign in Poland in 1794/95 . On July 17, 1798, Zawadzky became captain and company commander . The regiment was with King Friedrich Wilhelm III during the 1806 campaign . This appointed Zawadzky on September 20, 1806 as a major regimental commander. He took part in the battle of Auerstedt and then followed the king via Küstrin to East Prussia . After Zawadzky had arrived in Koenigsberg , he set about reforming the severely decimated regiment. In February 1807 he took part in the Battle of Preussisch Eylau . After he was promoted to lieutenant colonel on May 15, 1807 , the king appointed him governor of Potsdam on August 10, 1807 in recognition of his achievements after the Peace of Tilsit .

Zawadzky moved with his regiment near Pyritz in the spring of 1809 , moved into quarters there and was promoted to colonel on May 20, 1809 . In Landsberg an der Warte, Zawadzky fell ill in September 1809 and was then unable to serve for two months. After he had followed the king to Berlin, Zawadzky signed on January 18, 1810 with the Order of the Red Eagle III. Class off. Shortly afterwards he submitted his farewell, which Zawadzky was granted on February 26, 1810 as major general with a pension of 800 thalers and a bonus of 400 thalers.

At the beginning of the Wars of Liberation , Zawadzky asked for re-employment. He was then appointed inspector of the garrison and replacement troops in the country's military government between the Elbe and Oder at the end of July 1813 . At the beginning of October 1815 he retired again with a pension of 1000 thalers and a bonus of 400 thalers.

Zawadzky married on September 14, 1791 in Charlottenburg Karoline Wilhelmine Johanna von Byern , divorced Baroness Digeon von Monteton (born March 10, 1764 in Parchen , † June 16, 1819 in Potsdam). The following children were born from the marriage:
