Harald Christ

Harald Christ (born February 3, 1972 in Worms ) is a German entrepreneur .

education and profession

Christ completed an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk at Stadtwerke Worms from 1989 to 1992 . Partly overlapping followed from 1991 to 1996 part-time training in banking and insurance.

By 1998 he was promoted to sales director at BHW Bausparkasse in Hameln . From 1999 to 2002 Christ was director of sales management (private and business customers) for Deutsche Bank 24 and director of the private banking division (wealthy private customers) for Deutsche Bank AG in Frankfurt. In 2003, in addition to his professional activities in various management positions, he founded a company, Conomus Treuhand AG , Berlin. Between 2002 and 2007 he was managing director and shareholder of the Hamburg investment company HCI Capital and Hammonia Reederei , and in 2005 he went public.

In autumn 2007, his contract as Chairman of the Management Board at HCI Capital AG ended and Christ moved to the Weberbank in Berlin as General Manager . As head of the private banking division , he was also a member of the divisional board of Westdeutsche Landesbank AG ( WestLB ) as global head of private banking . During this time, Christ was also Chairman of the Supervisory Board of WestLB Trust.

From mid-2008 to December 2012, Harald Christ concentrated exclusively on his own company, Conomus Treuhand, and on the entrepreneurial activities of CUSTODIA Treuhand- und Vermögensverwaltung AG , Berlin, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Conomus Treuhand. The group has been operating under the name CUSTODIA Trust GmbH since mid-2016 .

Christ joined the Postbank Group in February 2013, was appointed Chairman of the Board of Management of Postbank Finanzberatung AG at the beginning of March and was part of the Divisional Board of Deutsche Postbank AG with responsibility for Mobile Sales . Since June 2013, he has also been the general representative of BHW Bausparkasse AG . In December 2015 he resigned from his position as Chairman of the Board of Management of Postbank Finanzberatung AG and left the Postbank Group on April 30, 2016.

Christ became the new CEO of ERGO Beratung und Vertrieb AG in May 2016 . At the same time he is a member of the Management Board of ERGO Deutschland AG, sales department and a member of the supervisory board of Europäische Reiseversicherung AG (ERV). Since March 2017 he has also been the general representative of VORSORGE Lebensversicherung AG, an ERGO company.

With effect from December 31, 2017, Christ resigned from his executive board positions at ERGO in order to be more entrepreneurial and political in the future. He will remain associated with the ERGO Group as Chairman of the ERGO Foundation - Youth & Future , based in Hamburg, and will retain his supervisory board mandates at ERGO.

Since January 2018, Christ has joined his companies CUSTODIA Trust GmbH as managing partner, Christ & Company Consulting GmbH & Co.KG (strategy - communication - senior advisory) as chairman and Conomus Propiedad SL as managing director and currently holds the following mandates:

Since February 2018 he has been a university lecturer at the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW) in the bachelor's degree in financial services. In June 2019, he was made an honorary senator for his extraordinary commitment to the university.

Harald Christ has been a lecturer at the Philosophical Faculty of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn since April 2019 .

From 1998 to 2001 he was already engaged for the Mannheim University of Cooperative Education and gave guest lectures at the Oxford University German Society (2011) and the Cambridge University German Society.

With effect from January 1, 2019, Christ took over Consultum Communications from Hans-Erich Bilges. The former ZDF director, Prof. Stolte, Chairman of the Advisory Board of Consultum, described this step as a "professionally successful generation change and strategic future planning" (source: "Family company of the day" (strategic future planning); Handelsblatt p. 14 January 29, 2019) .

Entrepreneurial activities

As an entrepreneur, Christ participated in various companies and as a co-investor in well-known investment companies. With his own company, Conomus Treuhand, he was notably involved in companies in the fields of logistics, shipping, plant construction, banking, real estate management, IT and in start-ups until 2012. In some of these companies he also worked as a consultant until 2012, such as Kinnarps Samas GmbH (office furniture manufacturer) and E&E Information Consultants GmbH (software house / consultants).

In addition, Harald Christ held various advisory and supervisory board mandates, including at TME AG (strategy and management consultancy for the financial services industry / supervisory board), Behringer Harvard Europe Real Estate GmbH (real estate manager), and E&E Information Consultants GmbH (Software house / consultants), Germanischer Lloyd (ship classification and maritime services), RSBK GmbH (Rudolph Scharping / consulting and communication) and Alliander AG (operator of electricity and gas networks). The K&S Group - Dr. He accompanied Krantz Social Construction and Care (operator of retirement homes) as deputy chairman of the supervisory board until the end of 2012 and in 2013 switched to the company's advisory board, for which he worked until mid-2016.

In 2006, Christ was at times more than 25% involved in Datenlotsen Informationssysteme GmbH, Hamburg, and accompanied the company for years as a business angel and a member of the board. Datenlotsen Informationssysteme GmbH supports universities and other educational institutions with solutions for digital university organization and administration in the field of campus management ( CampusNet ).

A group of investors in which Christ was involved temporarily took over Interschalt AG (2007). Christ was chairman of the supervisory board until he left the group of shareholders. His company took a stake of more than 10% in Nordaktienbank AG at times.

In 2008, both the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and wealthy investors - including Christ - took part in the Norddeutsche Affinerie (NA) in order to successfully avert a planned takeover by major shareholder Mirko Kovats . It was the common goal to secure jobs and the company headquarters of one of the most important industrial companies in Hamburg.

From 2008 to 2010 Christ held up to 10% of the shares in Westgrund AG. Westgrund AG is a real estate company that owns around 19,000 residential and commercial units in Germany (2016).

At the initiative of his hometown Worms , Christ participated in the rescue of the Samas group (Schärf office furniture) in 2009 . At the beginning of 2010 the company was taken over by the Swedish Kinnarps AB. This resulted in Kinnarps Samas GmbH, based in Worms. The location in Worms was thus retained. Christ accompanied Kinnarps Samas GmbH as an advisory board until 2012.

Until 2012, Christ accompanied Degewo AG as an advisory board. Degewo is the largest state-owned real estate company in Berlin.

As a co-founder and until 2012 at times with more than 30% of the shares, Christ was the largest single shareholder of the African Development Corporation, which invests in African companies. Former Barclays boss Bob Diamond has recently become a major shareholder.

Christ is a member of the United Service Union (ver.di) and participant in the Baden-Baden Entrepreneur Talks.

In 2012 Christ ended his entrepreneurial activities and resigned from the management of his investments in order to prepare for new professional tasks.

Political activities

The chancellor candidate of 2009, Frank-Walter Steinmeier , SPD, wanted to improve the image of the SPD in the middle class with Christ . In Steinmeier's shadow cabinet, Christ was nominated as a candidate for the office of Federal Minister of Economics.

Christ began his political engagement in the SPD early - at the age of 15 for the young socialists of the SPD (Jusos). At the age of 16 he became chairman of his home association, and at 17 years of age Juso district chairman of Alzey-Worms. This was followed by functions as a member of the Juso district executive board and in various committees at state and federal level.

In his political career, Christ was often traded for new tasks in the SPD. He was interviewed as a candidate for first mayor for the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg (2006) and as a candidate for the Senator of Finance in Berlin (2011). In 2006/2007 Christ was state treasurer and at the same time a member of the executive state board of the SPD in Hamburg. In April 2010 he was elected as the state treasurer of the Berlin SPD and was thus a member of the state executive board until summer 2012. As part of the Berlin SPD state party conference in June 2012, he made his office available and retired from politics in order to prepare for new professional tasks.

In February 2015 Christ was a founding member of the Economic Forum of the SPD eV Until September 2019 he was treasurer of the association and then vice-president. In January 2020 he resigned from his post as Vice President and left the association.

In July 2018, the SPD party executive appointed Christ as SME representative. In September 2019, he announced his resignation from this post in December 2019.

In December 2019, Christ left the SPD after 31 years of membership. He justified the move with a shift to the left in the party, which no longer represented his economic and middle-class position. In March 2020 he joined the FDP . On August 17, 2020, Christ was proposed by Christian Lindner as the successor to Hermann Otto Solms as Federal Treasurer of the FDP. The election is scheduled for the FDP federal party conference on September 19, 2020.

• as chairman of the board of the ERGO Foundation - Jugend & Zukunft, founded on July 28, 1998, based in Hamburg. The foundation is dedicated to young people and aims to encourage them to take responsibility for shaping their own future.
• as a member of the board of trustees of the Deutschlandstiftung Integration (since 2018), which aims to make integration in Germany a success with its activities. The patron of the foundation is Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel and the chairman of the foundation council is the former Federal President. D. Christian Wulf .
• For his many years of extraordinary commitment to the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW) and in particular its location in Mannheim, Harald Christ was awarded the honorary senator of the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University (2019).
• In 2020 the Teddy Activist Award was presented for the first time , the prize money of which was donated by Harald Christ.
