The Harlingerland is next to the Wangerooge one of the ferry boats between Harlesiel and Wangerooge . The ship was built in 1979 at Gebr. Schürenstedt shipyard in Bardenfleth. The keel was laid on February 8, the ship was launched and completed in May 1979.
The ship is powered by four six-cylinder four-stroke marine diesel engines from the manufacturer Volvo Penta with an output of 205 kW each, which act on two fixed propellers . The ship also has a bow thruster .
Is operated the ship on behalf of the Deutsche Bahn belonging SIW shipping and Wangerooge island railroad through the shipping company Warrings ,
The Harlingerland is a pure passenger ferry, except for passengers, only their checked baggage and supplies for the island of Wangerooge are transported in small containers that are lifted onto the aft deck with a crane on the ship.
Collision & Incidents
In 1997, the 60-passenger Jens Albrecht III collided with the 392-passenger Harlingerland ferry . 14 people were injured in the accident and the Jens Albrecht III was badly damaged. Both captains were later blamed.
Incidents
On December 20, 2017, the "Harlingerland" hit a sandbank. The 48 passengers had to wait there until 11 p.m., the ferry started at 2:30 p.m. Then the ferry freed itself on its own. The cause of the accident is currently being determined.
