Hartmann is a common name, especially in the Middle Ages. There are two possible meanings. On the one hand, "Hartmann" is considered to be the "tough" or "strong man", on the other hand the word "hard" means something like "forest" in the southern German-speaking area, which is also found in several place and field names ( Harthof , Am Hart ) had received.
