Hartwig von Schack (* 1728 in Müssen ; † May 19, 1809 in Bielefeld ) was a Prussian major general and commander of Würzburg .

Life

His parents were the Danish colonel and heir to Müssen Berthild Hartwig von Schack from the house of driving and his wife, a born von Schack.

Military career

Schack came to Berlin as a cadet on November 23, 1745 and was hired on February 24, 1746 as a non-commissioned officer in the "von Anhalt" infantry regiment . There he became an ensign on September 22, 1750 and second lieutenant on June 19, 1755 . During the Seven Years' War Schack fought in the battles of Breslau , Leuthen and Liegnitz , as well as Moys , Landeshut and the sieges of Prague and Olomouc . He was wounded in the arm near Leuthen. At that time he was on December 16, 1757 Prime Lieutenant and on February 4, 1762 staff captain .

After the war, Schack rose to captain and company commander on April 1, 1764 . As such he took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession in 1778/79 , on November 19, 1778 he was promoted to major . On April 18, 1785 he was then commander of the grenadier battalion. On June 15, 1786 he was then battalion commander. But on December 4, 1786 he was transferred to the "von Hundt" grenadier battalion as commander . There Schack was born on June 6, 1788 Lieutenant Colonel and on August 27, 1790 Colonel . On July 13, 1793 he came to Würzburg as a commandant, which meant a salary of 800 thalers for him. He replaced the late Colonel von Plotho. Shortly afterwards, on July 28, 1793, Schack was also promoted to major general. On May 27, 1799, he received his resignation with a pension of 800 thalers and permission to stay in Bielefeld.

Schack married Sophie Amalie Charlotte Auguste Metzner (* 1751) on March 9, 1768 in Bielefeld. The couple had the following children:
