Johann Christian von Hundt (born November 26, 1730 in Lübz , † January 31, 1815 in Preussisch Stargard ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and commander of Thorn .

Life

His parents were Gustav Detlef von Hundt, heir to Ober-Rieding in Mecklenburg-Schwerin , and his wife Anna, née Hinzpeter from Schwerin. His brother was Major Gustav Detlef von Hundt. He was married to Juliane Frederike Kirsten, widow of Professor Benedikt Gottlieb Clauswitz , the grandmother of the later General Clausewitz.

Military career

Hundt had been a cadet in Berlin since October 20, 1745 and came on April 15, 1750 as a private corporal in the infantry regiment "von Anhalt-Dessau" of the Prussian army . There he became an ensign on July 8, 1752 . During the Seven Years' War Hundt fought in the battles of Lobositz , Prague , Hochkirch and Liegnitz as well as the sieges of Prague , Dresden and Schweidnitz . During this time he was on 18 November 1756 second lieutenant , on November 23, 1759 first lieutenant and 24 August In 1760 he was adjutant general of the regimental commander Franz Adolf von Anhalt-Bernburg .

After the war Hundt rose to the position of captain and company commander until July 7, 1770 . On September 6, 1774 he was again commanded to the autumn maneuvers near Potsdam. Then he took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession in 1778/79 . On June 14, 1782 he was then major and on June 25, 1784 battalion commander, then on June 1, 1787 commander of the regiment's grenadier battalion. On September 9, 1791, he was appointed regimental commander. In 1792/93 Hundt took part in the siege of Mainz as part of the First Coalition War. He became a colonel on June 8, 1792 and also received the order Pour le Mérite on October 22, 1792 . On January 8, 1794 he was then appointed Commandant of Thorn. His adjutant Julius von Voss saved the fortress and war chest during the Kościuszko uprising . Hundt was appointed major general on November 3, 1794. He received an estate in South Prussia, and on January 20, 1797 he was given two months' leave to visit his estate, where the young lieutenant Carl von Clausewitz accompanied him.

After the lost war in 1806/07, Hundt received his departure on October 10, 1807 with a pension of 1000 thalers. But since he was put on half pay , he received only 500 thalers. On November 4, 1811 he was given the character of lieutenant general and a 100 thalers allowance. He died on January 31, 1815 in Preussisch-Stargard.

Hundt married Elisabeth Christiane Henriette von Pirch (1752–1771) in Halle (Saale) on June 24, 1770 . She was the daughter of Captain Georg Siegmund von Pirch, who fell near Kolin . The marriage resulted in their son Johann Heinrich Daniel (1771-1814), who was a knight of the Iron Cross 1st class and who fell as a major of the 2nd West Prussian Infantry Regiment in the battle near Claye .

After the death of his first wife, Hundt married Friederike Helene Sophie von Knobelsdorff (1754–1816), a sister of the general and envoy Wilhelm von Knobelsdorff, on February 24, 1774 . The couple had the following children:
