Harvey Forbes Fierstein (born June 6, 1954 in Brooklyn , New York City ) is an American actor in film, theater and musicals as well as writer and singer.

Life

Harvey Fierstein became famous for his first play Torch Song Trilogy (1982), for which he won two Tony Awards . The play was filmed in 1988 under the title Das Kuckucksei . Fierstein then wrote the book for the musical La Cage aux Folles (1983) by Jerry Herman based on the play by Jean Poiret . He was also awarded a Tony Award for this. He received his fourth Tony Award in 2003 for the role of Edna Turnblad in the musical Hairspray . In 2005 he was back on Broadway in the musical Anatevka , where he played the role of Tewje . His last Tony nomination to date was in 2012 for the book of the musical Newsies .

In the movie Independence Day (1996), he starred opposite Jeff Goldblum in Death to Smoochy by Danny DeVito (2002), he starred alongside Robin Williams , Edward Norton , Catherine Keener and Danny DeVito.

He is known for his rough voice as well as his work as an activist for gay and lesbian rights .

German dubbing voice

Due to the rough voice of Fierstein, the actor Tommi Piper was mostly used as the German speaker. Another, often used speaker was Jürgen Kluckert .
