history

In 1131, he was first mentioned in a document by Bishop Bernhard von Hildesheim. At that time the place belonged mostly to the monastery of St. Georg in Goslar . The monastery Ringelsheim however, and the cathedral chapter Goslar also possessed property in the village. Since 1254 at the latest, the monastery of St. George had dominated the village by expanding its possessions. In the following time, he was in the border area between the duchy of Hildesheim and the duchy of Braunschweig .

In 1307, he was given the right to build a chapel and a little later a church in the village. In 1643 a big dispute began about the denomination of the place, which had in fact been Protestant since 1542. Since then, however, the church has continued to belong to the St. Georg Monastery, which was already located in Grauhof at the time . The dispute escalated further, so that in 1702 the disputed church was demolished by the St. George monastery and replaced by a new Catholic church. It was not until 1711 that an agreement was reached that provided that another Protestant church would be built in the village next to the existing one. This was built until 1723 and is still preserved today, while the Catholic Church was demolished in 1833.

In terms of transport technology, Heißum was opened up in 1875 with the construction of a railway line from Goslar to Hildesheim . However, a train station never existed.

On July 1, 1972, he was incorporated into Liebenburg.

church

The Protestant church was renovated in 1902 and 1955 during its existence since 1723. It consists of oak framework and has a very old bell and a weather vane. It is also equipped with two remarkable altar candlesticks.

Mouse fountain

The Mausebrunnen is the source of a brook that rises a few hundred meters east of the village on the western slope of the Salzgitter ridge and used to provide hot water with drinking water.

Every year at Pentecost the Mausebrunnenfest takes place there.

Fortune pond

Fortune pond that has fallen dry near Heidmum

To the north of the Mausebrunnen lies the former fortune pond. During the operation of the Fortuna mine near Groß Döhren, the mud pond was used for washing. In the process, clayey and sandy components that were contained in the iron ore were separated from it and discharged into the pond as sludge. This happened in the 1930s to 1950s. The pond has mostly dried up today. Its basin is covered with reed vegetation.

The coat of arms on the right shows a miner in his parade uniform, his hand resting on a rock hammer. On the left is a shepherd with his shepherd's staff, as it was to be found in every village in earlier times. Between the two the mouse fountain, the source of the small village stream. The figure of the miner is reminiscent of the mining in the surrounding pits Fortuna , Ida , Morgenstern and Georg Friedrich , which was recorded in the 17th century and operated until the 1960s. The coat of arms in today's colors was introduced in 1998.
