The following places surround Klein Mahner:

The Warne flows north of Klein Mahner about a kilometer away .

history

In the 12th century, the land of today's Klein Mahner was first documented in an exchange agreement between the monasteries of Ilsenburg and Steterburg . The former place name was Mandere . Klein Mahner seems to have been the older and therefore initially also the larger of the two places, so that it is likely that Klein was only added in the later development period. Klein Mahner was built on a dry area in the middle of the Warne marshland together with arable land.

In 1393, the approximately three kilometer long Mahner pond was created. The origin goes back to a damming of the Warne, whereby the Liebenburg , which belonged to the diocese of Hildesheim , should be protected from the hostile Brunswick troops . The pond was drained again between 1810 and 1815, and the reclaimed area was then used for livestock.

In 1746, Klein Mahner burned down completely for the last time. Thatched half-timbered houses disappeared from the townscape. Therefore, most of the buildings still preserved today date from the 19th century. When the town of Salzgitter was founded in 1942, the villages of Klein and Groß Mahner were finally separated from each other. Groß Mahner was assigned to the city of Salzgitter, Klein Mahner to the district of Goslar. However, the pastor's seat for both places is still in Klein Mahner. In the past few years, the damming of the Warne created another pond, which, however, cannot be compared with the size of the former Mahner pond.

On July 1, 1972, Klein Mahner was incorporated into Liebenburg.

church

Village church of Klein Mahner

The oldest piece of equipment in the church is the medieval altar, which dates back to before the Reformation in 1542. It is one of the few preserved altars from this period. The church tower, on the other hand, was renewed in 1812, but has never lost its shape as a defensive tower . The nave was demolished in 1865 and rebuilt in the neo-Gothic style. With the exception of the altar, all other pieces of equipment date from the 19th century.

politics

Local council

The local council of Klein Mahner consists of four (2011: 5) councilors and councilors (changes compared to 2011):

Since only four candidates were nominated, a fifth seat on the local council remains vacant.

(Status: local election on September 11, 2016 )

Local mayor

The local mayor is Rüdiger Lietzow (community of voters).

coat of arms

The coat of arms shows a three-armed and three-legged candlestick. The representation was taken from the coat of arms of the von Mander (Mahner) family, who had had the candlestick in their seal since 1330. The coat of arms was approved by the Braunschweig administration president in 1968.

Economy and Infrastructure

Transport links

Klein Mahner train station

A district road runs through Klein Mahner and connects the town with Ohlendorf and Flachstöckheim in the north and with the state road 510 between Liebenburg and Groß Mahner.

In the north of Klein Mahner is the train station of the Warnetalbahn , which has been handling significant freight traffic again since 2019. In addition to an extensive transhipment of logs on the public loading road on the north side of the railway station, the passenger station facing the town with its museum railway is home to a number of historical transport gems.
