history

Posthof has been a junction of important road connections since the establishment of a post line in 1569. A large post office building was not built until 1827. In 1869, however, the construction of the railway line from Hildesheim to Goslar with a train station in neighboring Othfresen led to the decline of the Posthof.

Ironworks

After the closure of the postal route, the Othfresen ironworks was built in 1869 in the village of Bethel Henry Strousberg . It was the first industrial company in Posthof and Othfresen. Here was iron ore from neighboring Salzgitter Hills smelted, more and more workers in Posthof so settled. But iron production was stopped as early as 1874, as there was a lack of demand throughout Germany. A sugar factory was built on the factory premises in 1883 and lasted until 1965.

In the Third Reich , the ore deposits in the Salzgitter ridge regained importance, but the smelting no longer took place in Posthof.
