The Heiden nature reserve in Lonsee and Amstetten lies in the area of the municipalities of Amstetten and Lonsee in the Alb-Danube district in Baden-Württemberg .
The area, which consists of numerous sub-areas, extends south of the core town of Amstetten. The B 10 , the state road L 1232 and the L 1229 run through the area .

For Amstetten and Lonsee, a 123.0 hectare area has been under the NSG no. 4,272 designated as a nature reserve. These are " limestone grasslands that are typical of the landscape and are culturally and historically significant , juniper heaths , pasture forests, forests in dry and warm locations, as well as remnants of the formerly much more extensive pasture areas for sheep in extensive herding."
