Protection purpose
According to the Protected Area Ordinance, an essential protection purpose is the preservation of the lime-poor pastures with interspersed, extensively used meadows as a refuge for numerous light and warmth-loving animal and plant species that hardly find any habitat in our current landscape.
The purpose of protection is in particular:
- Protection and preservation of the gentian schiller grass lawn (Gentiano-Koelerietum) and the spring gentian-rich semi-arid lawn (Gentiano vernae-Brometum) in combination with other poor grasslands on the Laichinger Alb;
- Protection and preservation of the areas as a habitat for the species-rich and endangered plant and animal communities of the grasslands and heather areas as well as the extensively used meadows, which in combination with field trees and hedges for rare bird species, such as. B. blackcocks, partridge and red-backed killer, form an ideal breeding and habitat;
- Protection of the heathland against upheaval, afforestation and intensification of use;
- Protection of the landscape-defining beauty and uniqueness of this area, which is a special feature in the natural area and, as a relic of the earlier economic methods, is of high national cultural value;
- Preservation of the function as a relaxation area with a high level of experience;
- Preservation of the mining pits as cultural monuments and the sinkhole as geological monuments.
