The FFH area Kuppenalb near Laichingen and Lonetal is located in the east of Baden-Württemberg and is part of the European Natura 2000 network of protected areas . It was designated in 2015 through the amalgamation of four already existing FFH areas by the Tübingen regional council.

location

The Kuppenalb protected area near Laichingen and Lonetal, around 1794 hectares (ha) in size, is located in the natural areas of Mittlere Kuppenalb , Mittlereflächealb , Albuch and Härtsfeld and Lonetal -flächenalb . The 39 sub-areas are located in the communities of Amstetten , Beimerstetten , Bernstadt , Blaustein , Börslingen , Dornstadt , Laichingen , Langenau , Lonsee , Merklingen , Nellingen , Nerenstetten , Weidenstetten , Westerheim and Westerstetten in the Alb-Danube district and Römerstein in the Reutlingen district.

The area is strongly divided by a large number of small sub-areas and has a total extension of approx. 40 kilometers in a west-east direction. The nature of the landscape of the protected area is essentially determined by the numerous knolls, dry valleys and hollows of the Kuppenalb. Here you will mainly find poor, lowland hay meadows and grasslands, but also rocks.

history

By merging the original FFH areas 7423-343 "Areas between Laichingen and Donnstetten", 7524-342 "Alb around Nellingen / Merklingen", 7425-341 "Lonetal Kuppenalb", and 7526-341 "Western Lonetal-Area Alb", the protected area is now established “Originated. These have existed since 2005.
