The Braunsel nature reserve is located in the area of the communities Emeringen and Rechtenstein in the Alb-Danube district in Baden-Württemberg .

Characteristics

The protected area was created on January 10, 1991 by ordinance of the Tübingen regional council with the protected area number 4175. This ordinance was published in the Law Gazette for Baden-Württemberg on February 28, 1991 and came into force thereafter. The CDDA code is 162543 and corresponds to the WDPA ID .

location

The area lies between the communities Emeringen and Rechtenstein. It includes the entire course of the Braunsel and the areas between the water and the Danube. Almost in its full length it borders the 582 hectare nature reserve Donauwiesen river landscape between Zwiefaltendorf and Munderkingen . The reserve borders two landscape protection areas to the north. It belongs entirely to the FFH area No. 7823-341 Danube between Munderkingen and Riedlingen and to the European bird protection area No. 7624-441 valleys of the Middle Alb . It is located in the natural area 095 - Middle Area Alb within the natural spatial main unit 09 - Swabian Alb .

Protection purpose

According to the Protected Area Ordinance, the main protection purpose is the long-term safeguarding and maintenance of the Danube meadows and the course of the Braunsel as a habitat for breeding birds and migrating bird species as well as the steep forest, heather and rock areas for the animal and plant species that rely on them.
