The Catholic Holy Three Kings Church is located at Fredersdorfer Weg 22 on the slope of the Schonungsberg in the Berlin district of Rahnsdorf . It was built according to the plans of the architect Josef Vassillière in the New Objectivity style.

history

In 1929 a church building association was founded. On December 12, 1929, the Association of Catholic Congregations in Berlin bought the property between Fredersdorfer Weg 22 and Grünheider Weg 102. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on September 18, 1933, but the foundation stone was only laid on October 22, 1933. October was the topping-out ceremony . The new building was designated as an emergency church on July 8, 1934 . It was to be used as a parish hall after the final church was built on the same property.

The parish church of St. Franziskus in Friedrichshagen as the mother parish built the branch church in Rahnsdorf on August 1, 1934 . In 1948 she was first curacy with expansion of the pastoral care of the local situation Wilhelmshagen. In 1968 she became independent in terms of property law and was also responsible for Hessenwinkel. The abolition of the parish of Friedrichshagen and its affiliation to the parish of St. Josef in Köpenick by order of the Archbishop's Ordinariate in Berlin was the reason that the Curatie Rahnsdorf merged with the parish of St. Bonifatius in Erkner on November 1, 2003.

Building description

The hall church is covered with a flat hipped roof. The basement is clinkered , the walls above are brightly plastered . The hillside location allowed in the basement a home for the clergy. The retracted chancel is flanked by the sacristy on the south-west corner and the low tower on a square floor plan on the south-east corner, resulting in a rectangular building.

Furnishing

inside view

The church interior is provided with a flat ceiling, which is joined on the south side by a drawn-in, also flat-roofed chancel, which is flanked by the sacristy. There is a gallery above the northern entrance . The three windows facing south have stained glass windows based on a design by Odo Tattenpach . They depict the Three Kings in an expressionist style. The front of the tabernacle is said to come from the same artist .

In 1972 the chancel was redesigned according to the guidelines of the Second Vatican Council . Except for the tabernacle and the relief of the Good Shepherd, the two reliefs on the altar (bread basket / fish and pelican) and the one above a side altar (Madonna) have been removed.
