In 1911 the concert singer Helene Siegfried-Aichele (1867–1966), who comes from Lörrach and lives in Berlin , decided to build a “little house” in the southern Black Forest near Grafenhausen-Rothaus, which she originally wanted to use as a holiday home. She had it equipped with electricity and light as well as a bathtub from Frankfurt am Main, which for this time can be considered a luxury. A Steinway grand piano was also part of the furnishings of the house.

Siegfried-Aichele put together a collection in the house with as many original furnishings as possible from other Black Forest houses. These include B. the tiled stove ( Chunnscht ) from a mill in Kutterau, a hamlet in St. Blasien or Dachsberg , and the bell tower with a bed bell that can be rung from the bedroom.

For Siegfried-Aichele, the Hüsli was initially a place of relaxation and a meeting place for companies, but after her Berlin apartment was destroyed in 1945, she chose it as her place of residence. Already during Siegfried's lifetime, District Administrator Alfred Mallebrein campaigned for the collection to be preserved after her death. After the district council had inspected the building, it unanimously decided at the district council on March 26, 1958 in Hinterzarten that the Upper Black Forest district would buy the Hüsli .

After the death of Helene Siegfried-Aichele in 1966, Ingeborg Krummer-Schroth and a manager initially took care of the organization and organization of the collection. When in 1973 the Hüsli became the property of the newly created district of Waldshut, the Hüsli served as the backdrop for the film Black Forest Trip out of Lovesickness with Roy Black . In 1985, the state of Baden-Württemberg held an exhibition on its economy and culture in the Soviet capital Moscow. The exhibits included a. a coffee grinder from 1786, a harvest jug and a noodle chair from the 18th century.

From 1984 to spring 2013 the Hüsli was looked after by Brigitte and Herbert Hofmeier, who lived on the upper floor of the house and welcomed around 30,000 visitors in the first year. When the Black Forest Clinic was broadcast from autumn 1985 , the number of visitors increased to 130,000 people per year, but fell back to the original level of around 30,000 by 2012. Nevertheless, the couple announced in the summer of 2012 that they would move out of the house in March 2013 because of the search for "complete peace" and want to retire.

On August 8, 2008, September 9, 2009 and October 10, 2010 , several couples were each married in the Hüsli. For the 100th anniversary, the teacher Markus Munk from Fellbach- Schmiden submitted a draft for a special stamp, which was not included in the 2012 stamp year of the Federal Republic of Germany . The anniversary was celebrated on July 15, 2012.

Herbert Hofmeier retired in May 2013. Marena Avila (* 1973), a Munich musician and music producer, moved in in March 2013. At the end of 2015, however, she ended her administrative work and moved out of the Hüsli in order to be able to concentrate more on the music again. The Hüsli management was transferred to Anita Müller-Berthold from the neighboring brewery inn of the Badische Staatsbrauerei Rothaus .
