Federico Fernández (born February 21, 1989 in Tres Algarrobos , Buenos Aires Province ) is an Argentine football player who is currently under contract with the English Premier League club Newcastle United .

Career

Fernández made his league debut for Estudiantes de La Plata on September 14, 2008 in a 1-0 win over CA Vélez Sarsfield . In January 2009 he was selected for the Argentine U-20 national team and took part with her in the U-20 South American Championship in Venezuela . On May 2, 2009, he scored his first goal in the away game against CA Lanús .

In December 2010, Fernández moved to the Italian first division club SSC Napoli for a transfer fee of three million euros , but did not arrive in Italy until July 2011 due to entry difficulties. He scored his first two goals for Napoli on November 2, 2011 in the 3-2 defeat by Bayern Munich in the group stage of the Champions League . In the 2013/14 season he established himself in the defense of SSC Napoli and became a regular player after he had been loaned to Getafe FC the previous season . Fernandéz made the leap into the World Cup squad of the Argentine national team through strong performances . He played four games at the finals in Brazil . On August 20, 2014, he moved to Swansea City in the Premier League for around ten million and signed a four-year contract.
