The Schlüchtsee is a small artificial lake in the southern Black Forest near Grafenhausen in the district of Waldshut and is traversed by the Schlücht .

History and size

The St. Blasien monastery needed an ice pond for the nearby brewery in Rothaus, which was founded in 1791, and so the Schlucht was dammed. A textile dyeing factory was soon added, which existed until the 1920s. The meadows were bleached and the lake water was used for dyeing. It was not until the 20th century that bathing began and the wooden bathing house also dates from this time. With the acquisition of the lake by the Swiss noble family Ernest von Adelsheim around 1920, emphasis was placed on nature conservation, especially the water lilies. The former tenant of the Schlüchtseehof Erich Gold continued to run it. Today the water lily area is separated from the bathing area by tree trunks. Today there is also a kiosk on the beach.

The area of the lake, located at an altitude of 914 m directly north of the Schlüchtseehof between Grafenhausen and Rothaus , covers approx. 6 ha (0.06 km²) with a circumference of almost 0.73 km. The width in north-south direction is 260 meters and 230 meters in west-east direction. The depth is up to five meters. The lake is popular for swimming and fishing. A hiking trail leads past the lake to the Hüsli , named after Klausjürgen Wussow . The lake has been under the no. 3.032 with 8.5 hectares as "Schlüchtsee" since October 11, 1940 under nature protection.
