Heimo Wiederhofer

Heimo Wiederhofer (born October 15, 1962 in Kapfenberg ) is an Austrian jazz musician ( drums ).

Wiederhofer grew up in Kindberg, Styria and studied music at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz with Manfred Josel , Erich Bachträgl , Kurt Hammer, August Zöbl and Gerald Fromme; He graduated with a major in classical percussion. During his studies he had engagements in the Schauspielhaus Graz , with the Graz Symphony Orchestra, as a studio musician and as a member of various jazz and funk bands.

Between 1987 and 1990 he played in the Götz Tangerding trio , with whom he was also involved in recordings with Wolfgang Lackerschmidt , Monty Waters and Sheila Jordan . From 1987 to 2003 he and Ewald Oberleitner belonged to the trio of Karlheinz Miklin , with whom he toured internationally and took part in numerous festivals. There he accompanied Sheila Jordan, Albert Mangelsdorff , Bill Dobbins , Jimmy Knepper , Ron McClure , Mark Murphy , Andy Bey , Jarmo Savolainen , Phil Markowitz , Ed Neumeister , Karl Ratzer , Gustavo Bergalli and Fritz Pauer .

Since 1988, Wiederhofer also worked with Harri Stojka , with whom he also performed in the USA and India. In 1998 he founded the Ensemble Vienna Project together with Thomas Kugi, Oliver Kent , Werner and Alex Feldgrill and Rüdiger Kostron , which recorded the CD Bedouine with Fawci Chekili and worked with Fay Victor on the album Should We Do This Again . He also belonged to Zipflo Weinrich's group (1998 to 2003) and to the Go Blow ensemble (with Thomas Gansch , Michael Hornek , Klaus Wienerroither, Georg Breinschmid ), with whom he recorded two CDs. He currently belongs to the bands of Roland Hollik and Wolfgang Seligo as well as Tromsø and the Wiederhofer Trio . He can also be heard on Andre Heller's album Ruf und Echo and the album The Funky Cow by Joruma & the Funky Horns. According to Tom Lord , he was involved in eleven recordings between 1988 and 2005.

Wiederhofer also taught in seminars at the Royal Academy of Music , the Berklee College of Music and the Youth Standard Bank Jazz Workshop Grahamstown South Africa.
