Heiner Hans Menninger also Heiner Menninger (born January 7, 1942 in Innsbruck ; † April 2, 2020 in Agatharied ) was a German rheumatologist and university professor .

Life

After graduating from high school in Bonn in 1961 , he studied medicine at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn. After the physics , he studied at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and passed the state examination there on June 26, 1967. In the same year he received his doctorate and also passed the United States Medical Licensing Examination .

After his assistantship, he began his scientific work in 1970 at the District of Columbia General Hospital in Washington DC and from 1971 at the Montefiore Hospital and Medical Center , Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City .

In 1972 he worked as a research assistant at the University Hospital in Bonn and from 1973 to 1976 at the University Hospital in Zurich .

From 1976 to 1984 Menninger worked initially as an assistant and later as a senior physician at the Center for Internal Medicine and Dermatology at the Medical University in Hanover under the direction of Fritz Hartmann . During this time he received recognition as a specialist in internal medicine and specialization in rheumatology. He also completed his habilitation there with a thesis on "Immunohistological detection of elastase at the cartilage-pannus border".

From January to September 1984 he was the founding chief physician of the rheumatology department at the Bundesknappschafttskrankenhaus Püttlingen . From November 1984 to April 2005 he was chief physician at the 1st Medical Clinic at the Rheumatism Center Bad Abbach . In 1989 he was appointed adjunct professor.

Heiner Hans Menninger died on April 2, 2020 at the age of 78 as a result of COVID-19 pneumonia . He left four grown children, six grandchildren and his life partner.

Private life

Heiner Hans Menninger was married to Rita Menninger, who died in May 2010.

Menninger has been interested in painting since his school days. In the late nineties he trained as a part-time watercolor painting and attended master classes a. a. with Gerhard Almbauer, Edith Thurnherr, Simon Fletcher or Bernhard Vogel . His works, which arose from suggestions on his frequent art trips, were shown in numerous national and international exhibitions.

During his student days he sang in the Munich Bach Choir under Karl Richter , most recently in the Regensburg Kantorei .

From 1999 to 2008 he was director of the Regensburg-Kumpfmühl cultural forum in the parish of St. Wolfgang and in this honorary position was particularly committed to ecumenism and the protection of life.
