Heinrich Imig (born July 23, 1893 in Steele ( Essen district ), † February 24, 1956 in Castrop-Rauxel ) was a German SPD politician .

The son of a miner attended elementary school and high school in Steele. For financial reasons, however, he was unable to complete his Abitur. From 1912 he worked as a miner at the Friedrich Ernestine colliery . Between 1914 and 1918 he was a soldier in the First World War . Then he was employed at the Zeche Zollverein .

He was a union member early on and had been a member of the works council since 1926 . As chairman of the general works council of the Zollvereinsschächte he also joined the board of the United Steelworks AG . From 1929 he worked as secretary of the Ruhr district management of the miners' association , but later switched to the Castrop-Rauxel office, of which he became head. In 1933 he was dismissed due to his convictions and worked as a representative of a bread factory. During the Second World War he was assigned to the air raid police.

Between 1945 and 1948 he was first appointed by the Allies as mayor, then department head and city ​​director of the city of Castrop-Rauxel. Imig was a member of the German Bundestag in its first legislative period (1949–1953) as an SPD member for the constituency of Herne - Castrop-Rauxel . In 1950 he was chairman of the parliamentary committee of inquiry to investigate the causes of the mine disaster at the Dahlbusch colliery in Gelsenkirchen-Rotthausen . From July 16, 1952 to December 10, 1953 he was also a member of the European Parliament . He then succeeded August Schmidt as head of IG Bergbau , because Heinrich Gutermuth , who was actually elected, resigned his position in favor of Imig. From 1954 he was also a member and from late summer 1954 President of the International Mining Association .

Honors

1972 in Eschweiler-Ost the -Imig street Heinrich named after him. Heinrich-Imig-Strasse named after him also exists in the communities of Oer-Erkenschwick , Lünen , Frechen , Hürth , Recklinghausen , Herne , Essen , Kamen and Bergkamen . In Brechten and Langendreer there is the Imigstraße in Nordstemmen-Rössing a Heinrich Imig Square . Since 2013 there has also been a Heinrich-Imig-Strasse at the place where he lives, Castrop-Rauxel-Ickern.
