Heinrich LXVII. Prince Reuss younger line, Count and Lord of Plauen, Lord of Greiz, Kranichfeld, Gera, Schleiz and Lobenstein (born October 20, 1789 in Schleiz , † July 11, 1867 in Gera ) was from June 19, 1854 to July 11, 1867 ruling prince of the Principality of Reuss younger line .

origin

He was the second son of Prince Heinrich XLII. (1752-1818) and Karoline zu Hohenlohe-Kirchberg (1761-1849) and brother of his predecessor Heinrich LXII. , which he followed in 1854 as a sovereign prince.

Life

He joined the army at a young age. On February 28, 1805 he received the character of a lieutenant in the Prussian army with the uniform of a titular officer. On April 9, 1806 he was raised to the rank of imperial prince. From 1806 to 1809 he then studied in Dresden. During the Wars of Liberation he was aggregated as a second lieutenant in the Brandenburg Hussar Regiment No. 3 . He took part in the campaign of 1814 . He fought in the Battle of Laon , earned the Iron Cross 2nd Class in the battle near La Chausee and fought in the battles near Chalons, Montmirail , Chateau-Thierry , Sezanne and Meaux. After the war, he was aggregated into the 3rd Uhlan Regiment on November 4, 1815 . There he became Rittmeister on October 10, 1816, but on August 4, 1818 he said goodbye and received permission to wear the uniform of the 3rd Uhlan Regiment. Nevertheless, he was promoted to major on August 4, 1818. On January 18, 1824, he received the Prussian Order of St. John and on February 20, 1825, a uniform of the 3rd Uhlan Regiment. On February 11, 1836, he was taken over to the officers à la suite . On November 1, 1840 he was given the character of a colonel, on March 22, 1845 that of a major general and on April 19, 1851 that of a lieutenant general.

His brother the Prince Heinrich LXII. died on September 16, 1854 and so was Heinrich LXVII. In the government. He immediately began to drill the Russian troops according to Prussian principles. Under his government, his minister Eduard Heinrich von Geldern-Crispendorf implemented an amendment to the constitution in the reactionary sense of the state parliament in 1856 . On February 28, 1855, he was awarded the Order of the Black Eagle on his 50th anniversary in service . On April 7, 1855 also the Saxon Order of the Rautenkrone and the Order of the White Falcon of the Grand Duchy of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach , and on September 4, 1856 the Grand Cross of the Belgian Order of Leopold .

As Prince Heinrich LXVII. On October 20, 1857, he donated the gold and silver cross of merit , known as the " civil honor cross " (to differentiate the " honor cross " donated by Prince Heinrich XIV in 1869 ).

On July 1, 1860 he was appointed General of the Cavalry by the King . On January 27, 1864, he was senior of the Iron Cross 2nd class, and on January 30, 1862, he was placed a la suite of Hussar Regiment No. 3. During the German War of 1866 he was initially neutral. After the Austrian defeat at Königgrätz on July 3, 1866, he joined the promised North German Confederation on June 26, 1866 .

The royal Prussian general of the cavalry à la suite was considered a man of talent, knowledge and business experience and was very popular in his country; he belonged to the league of freemasons . As a prince he was a close ally of Prussia . At his instigation, after the transfer of the residence from Schleiz to Gera in 1848, the representative renovation of Osterstein Castle took place in the years 1859 to 1863 .

He was married to Princess Adelheid Reuss zu Ebersdorf (1800–1880) since 1820 . Unlike her husband, the princess was not very popular . She was prone to class arrogance and had a reputation for being stingy.

He married Princess Adelheid Reuss zu Ebersdorf on April 18, 1820 in Ebersdorf (* May 28, 1800, † July 25, 1880), a daughter of Prince Heinrich LI. Reuss zu Ebersdorf (1761–1822) and Countess Luise von Hoym (1772–1832). The marriage had eight children, six of whom died in childhood.
