Heinrich Lang (architect)
Heinrich Lang (born December 20, 1824 in Neckargemünd , † September 4, 1893 in Karlsruhe ) was a German architect who mainly worked as a professor at the Technical University of Karlsruhe . He was considered a specialist in school and institute buildings.
Life
After attending the high school in Heidelberg , Lang studied at the Karlsruhe Polytechnic from 1842 to 1849 with Heinrich Hübsch and Friedrich Eisenlohr . In order to be accepted into the civil service, he made up his Abitur during his studies and passed the state examination in 1850. He then worked as an assistant until 1852.
In 1852 Lang was initially employed as an assistant teacher and in 1855 was appointed professor at the Polytechnic (since 1865: Karlsruhe Technical University). He was appointed building officer in 1868 and senior building officer in 1878. For the academic years 1870/71 and 1878/79 he was the director of the technical university, from 1880 until his death he was the director of the "Bauschule" (the architecture department of the technical university). Lang was also an extraordinary member of the Grand Ducal Baden Building Directorate under Josef Durm from 1868 to 1893 . In 1880 he was appointed an extraordinary member of the Prussian Academy of the Arts in Berlin. In 1893, Lang took over the post of university director for a third time, but died soon after his appointment.
Heinrich Lang was also active in local politics, at times he was a city councilor in Karlsruhe.

- 1876–1877: Hotel Germania in Karlsruhe, Karl-Friedrich-Strasse , Ettlinger Tor (together with Joseph von Schmaedel , destroyed in 1944)
- 1877–1879: Villa Friedreich in Heidelberg, Sophienstrasse 12
- 1884: Bankhaus Homburger , Schlossplatz 10 (demolished in 1979)
