Heinrich Schmitthenner

Heinrich Wilhelm Schmitthenner (born May 3, 1887 in Neckarbischofsheim , † February 19, 1957 in Marburg ) was a German geographer .

Life

Schmitthenner was the son of pastor Adolf Schmitthenner and the brother of military historian Paul Schmitthenner . After completing his doctorate under Alfred Hettner , he was professor in Heidelberg from 1923 , in Leipzig from 1928 and in Marburg from 1946 . He went on research trips to North Africa , East and Southeast Asia .

His research related to regional geography and geomorphology , especially layered landscape .

In 1939 he was elected a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina . Since 1934 he was a corresponding member of the Saxon Academy of Sciences .

Herbert Wilhelmy , Martin Schwind and Franz Tichy did their doctorates under Heinrich Schmitthenner .
