history

Kaindlhütte around 1894
Entrance area

The predecessor of the Heinrich Schwaiger House, the Kaindlhütte , was opened in 1872. Its namesake, the fur trader Albert Kaindl from Linz , financed the construction work. In retrospect, the location of this hut turned out to be too damp and quickly made renovation work necessary. These were carried out by Johann Grill , who later became known as the first German mountain guide and first host of the Watzmannhaus .

For this reason, the DAV section Munich decided in 1895 to build a new building near the old hut. The construction management took over the Munich alpinist and tourist outfitters Heinrich Schwaiger , one day before the planned inauguration of August 15, 1902 Wiesbachhorn house in the mountain hotel on Moserboden died as a result of pneumonia. In 1902, the general assembly of the DAV section in Munich decided to rename the completed shelter in honor of its builder.

In 1962 and 1963 the hut was extensively expanded. Up until 2009, the house was supplied with the help of a material ropeway .

In 2011 the Heinrich Schwaiger House was completely renovated and was therefore closed.

After the general renovation, the Heinrich-Schwaiger-Haus has been open again since July 2012. But there is no longer a material ropeway. The supply is now carried out exclusively by helicopters.

Ascent

The starting point is the “Heidnische Kirche” restaurant on the Mooserboden reservoir, which can be reached from the Kesselfall-Alpenhaus near Kaprun by shuttle bus and via the Lärchwand inclined lift .
