Heinz Oskar Vetter
Heinz Oskar Vetter (* 21st October 1917 in Bochum , † 18 October 1990 in Mülheim an der Ruhr ) was a German trade unionist and politician of the SPD , which on 21 May 1969 to 21 May 1982 as Chairman of the German Trade Union Federation officiated .
Life
His father, Oskar Vetter, had long been a leading member of the Baptist congregation in Bochum-Werne and an early member of the NSDAP . Heinz Oskar Vetter switched from Christian youth to the young people of the NSDAP in 1933 . In 1937 he became a young tribe leader. Before the Second World War , Vetter worked as a locksmith in the mining industry before taking his Abitur examination in 1939 . During the war he was a lieutenant in the Air Force . After a brief captivity, he returned to his original profession in 1946.
After attending the trade union academy for community economy from 1949 to 1951, he became a trade union secretary at IG Bergbau und Energie in 1952 . In 1960 he was promoted to the board of his union, of which he became vice chairman in 1964.
In 1969 the DGB finally elected Vetter as chairman of its federal executive committee. In addition, from 1974 to 1979 he was President of the European Trade Union Confederation in Brussels . In 1979 the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions , which is also based in Brussels, elected him as its vice-president. His successor as DGB chairman was Ernst Breit .
Heinz Oskar Vetter was chairman of the supervisory board of Neue Heimat and was involved in their affair.
In addition to his work as a trade unionist, Heinz Oskar Vetter was also active as a politician for the SPD, of which he had been a member since 1953. In 1979 he was elected to the European Parliament for the party , where he was a member of the Socialist Group for ten years.
Vetter was also a member of the Trilateral Commission .
