Heinz Stefan Herzka

Heinz Stefan Herzka (born February 1, 1935 in Vienna ) is a Swiss pediatrician, child psychiatrist and professor emeritus at the University of Zurich .

Life

Herzka was born in 1935 as the son of the psychologist Dr. Else Freistadt Herzka († 1953) and the accountant Hans Herzka were born in Vienna . In 1938 the family emigrated to Switzerland , so that Herzka grew up in Amden , Geneva and Zurich . From 1954 to 1961 he studied in Zurich and Basel medicine . He completed his studies in 1961 with the medical state examination and a dissertation . In 1960 Herzka married Irène Langsam, from whose marriage he has three children. After separating in 1979, he married Verena Nil in 2000. In his further medical career he was an assistant doctor in Leiden ( NL ) and Sheffield ( GB ) from 1962 to 1967 and trained as a pediatrician FMH (1965), child and adolescent psychiatrist and psychotherapist in Aarau and Zurich. In 1968 he became senior physician at the university psychiatric clinic for children and adolescents in Zurich. In 1969 , Herzka also completed his habilitation as a private lecturer in child and adolescent psychiatry at the medical faculty of the University of Zurich on the subject of psychopathology in childhood and adolescence. From 1971 to 1985 he was the head doctor of the branch and regional offices of the child and adolescent psychiatric service of the Canton of Zurich . From 1975 he headed his specially established day clinic, which he had planned and built up since 1974, and did not step down as a senior doctor until 1998. In 1980, Herzka began traveling around the world every year, increasingly in connection with its own project " Schalmeien der Welt". With the donation of their collection of musical instruments and cultural objects, the Herzka Nil founded the museum "MúSIC musée des instruments et des cultures du monde" in Céret ( F ), the largest international collection of traditional shawm instruments . Since his retirement in 2001, Herzka has been a supervisor for child therapy in Zurich and has been involved in various teaching activities at universities of applied sciences as well as public relations.

Herzka's papers were handed over personally to the Archives for Contemporary History by him in 2007 and placed in advance. They mainly contain photos, family films and teaching materials. The estate of his parents Else and Hans Freistadt-Herzka is also in the Archives for Contemporary History. Concerning the shawm collection there is only a small part in the archive for contemporary history. The instruments and other objects are archived in the “Center International de Musique Populaire” (CIMP) in Céret . A large part of the inventory consists of Heinz Stefan Herzka's public relations work: publications, articles in books and radio and television broadcasts.
