Henri Pons de Thiard de Bissy (born May 25, 1657 in Pierre-de-Bresse , † July 26, 1737 in Paris ) was cardinal and bishop of Toul and Meaux .

He studied theology in Paris and was elected Prince-Bishop of Toul on March 10, 1687 . Because of the ongoing tension between Rome and King Louis XIV , his election was not confirmed until 1692. The episcopal ordination donated to him in Paris on August 24, 1692 Hardouin Fortin de la Hoguette , the archbishop of Sens ; Co- consecrators were Louis de Thomassin , Bishop of Sisteron , and Armand de Chalucet , Bishop of Toulon . In 1698 he was appointed Archbishop of Bordeaux , which he refused. On the other hand, he agreed to a transfer to the bishopric of Meaux on February 9, 1705. In 1714 he was also abbot of the Abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés .

In the consistory of May 29, 1715 Pope Clement XI. him as a cardinal priest with the titular church of San Bernardo alle Terme in the college of cardinals . He participated in the conclave of 1721 with the election of Innocent XIII. , at the 1724 conclave , when Benedict XIII. was elected Pope, as well as at the conclave of 1730 , from which Clemens XII. emerged as Pope. In 1730 he was tasked with reforming Cluny Abbey . Thiard de Bissy was one of the leading critics of the Jansenists .

He died in St. Germain des Prés and was buried in the Cathedral of Meaux .
