Jukka Mika Petteri Hentunen (born May 3, 1974 in Joroinen ) is a Finnish ice hockey player who was last under contract with KalPa Kuopio in the SM-liiga .
Career
Jukka Hentunen began his career as a hockey player in the youth department of WarKis Varkaus, for whose first team he was active from 1993 to 1995 in the third Finnish division, the Suomi-sarja . He then spent three years in the second class I-divisioona , where he played for Diskos Jyväskylä and Hermes Kokkola . From 1998 to 2000 the winger played for HPK Hämeenlinna in the top Finnish league, the SM-liiga . For the 2000/01 season he joined its league rivals Jokerit Helsinki . The 2001/02 season he began with the Calgary Flames in the National Hockey League , after they had already selected him in the NHL Entry Draft 2000 in the sixth round as a total of 176 players. For Calgary he scored two goals and three assists in 28 games. In the further course of the season he also played for their farm team Saint John Flames in the American Hockey League and Calgary's NHL league rivals Nashville Predators .
For the 2002/03 season Hentunen returned to Jokerit Helsinki in the SM-liiga. With the team he won the IIHF Continental Cup at European level in the same year . He then played for two years each in the Swiss National League A for Friborg-Gottéron and HC Lugano . With Lugano he became Swiss champion in the 2005/06 season . After he started the 2007/08 season at Lugano in the NLA, he moved to Ak Bars Kazan in the Russian Super League . Internationally, he was also able to win the IIHF Continental Cup with the team. In the 2008/09 season , the Finn took part with Kazan in the game operations of the newly founded Continental Hockey League and won the Gagarin Cup with his team straight away .
From 2009 to 2011 Hentunen played again for Jokerit Helsinki in the SM-liiga. For the 2011/12 season he moved to KalPa Kuopio within the league .
International
For Finland , Hentunen took part in the World Championships in 2000 , 2001 , 2004 , 2005 , 2006 and 2007 as well as in the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin . In addition, he was in his country's squad for the World Cup of Hockey in 2004 and in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 for the Euro Hockey Tour . At world championships, Hentunen won two silver and two bronze medals with his team. He also achieved second place with Finland at the 2004 World Cup of Hockey and the 2006 Winter Olympics.
