Hermann Hubert Fabry (born January 10, 1880 in Jülich , † August 10, 1969 in Bochum ) was a German dermatologist .

Career

Hermann Fabry came from a merchant family from Jülich. The father ran a small business there. Fabry had ten siblings. He was the youngest brother of Johannes Fabry and father of Hermann Josef Hubert Carl Fabry .

In 1899 he passed the Abitur at the Dortmund City High School . From 1900 to 1904 he studied medicine in Bonn , Munich and Berlin and, like his brother a. a. trained as a dermatologist by Joseph Doutrelepont . In 1905 he received his doctorate in Bonn. From 1905 to 1907 he volunteered as a medical officer for the Schutztruppe in German East Africa . He was stationed in the Matumbi Mountains and later a doctor at Sewa Haji Hospital in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. From 1907 to 1908 he worked as the first assistant doctor in the dermatology clinic at the Louisen Hospital (today Dortmund City Hospital ). In 1908 he settled in Bochum and in 1912 founded the skin clinic at St. Josef Hospital Bochum with 60 beds as an attending physician . He later expanded the clinic by 30 beds. The management of the clinic was interrupted by the First World War. From 1914 to 1919 he was medical officer and later chief medical officer in the XXI military hospital in Białystok . In 1957, he handed over the management of the dermatological clinic to his son, Hermann Josef Hubert Fabry. In 1957 it consisted of an assistant doctor, two nurses and a nun.

From 1920 to 1933 he was on the board of the doctors' association and the medical society in Bochum. After his refusal to join the NSDAP , he was expelled from all offices. He also did not join the Reich Medical Association founded in 1935 . Because of his political harmlessness, he was commissioned by the military government to rebuild medical care in Bochum in 1945 together with the chief surgeon of surgery at the Augusta Hospital in Bochum, Heinrich Schlössmann . From 1945 to 1952 he was the district head of the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians and chamber representative for the Bochum district. He was also the delegate to the Westphalia-Lippe Medical Association and chairman of the Bochum Medical Association. For his development work, he received the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class.

In 2006, the Medical Society Bochum donated the Hermann Fabry Prize for doctoral students of the medical faculty of the Ruhr University Bochum in his honor , which is endowed with 1500 EUR.

In 1982 a bronze image of his head was donated. The work was carried out by Werner Klenk and is now in the lecture hall center of the St. Josef Hospital.
