Hermann Gottfried Pauli

Hermann Gottfried Pauli (born September 25, 1720 in Braunschweig ; † February 20 or 27, 1786 ) was a German Protestant theologian .

Life

The son of the theologian Hermann Reinhold Pauli and brother of Ernst Ludwig Pauli and Georg Jakob Pauli attended the reformed grammar school in Halle (Saale) and from 1737 attended the university there. In 1742 he became tutor of a Baron von Groote , whom he accompanied to Utrecht . Pauli spent the winter of that year there and also attended lectures at the University of Utrecht . Then he traveled back through Maastricht , Cologne , Wetzlar , Marburg and Kassel .

1743 Pauli was in Köthen tutor of Anhalt-Köthen Prince Karl Georg Lebrecht and Friedrich Erdmann , soon after Hofdiakon .

In 1749 Pauli finally went to Merzin as a pastor . He held this position until 1765, when he became a deacon and third preacher at the St. Jakob church in Köthen . He was introduced to this office on the 3rd Advent of the year. For consistory , court preacher, superintendents and first preachers of St. James was named Pauli 1,772th

At the age of 65, Pauli died on a trip in 1786. There are different information on the date of death; either February 20th or February 27th.

On May 10, 1746, Pauli married Maria Eleonore, the daughter of the Halle court assessor Sebastian Leveaur, who was the widow of the cathedral preacher Ernst Kiesewetters. Maria Eleonore died in 1768. The marriage had three sons, one of whom was still alive in 1776.
