Hermann Maurer (prehistoric)

Hermann Maurer (born October 21, 1948 in Horn ) is an Austrian prehistorian .

Life

After graduating from high school in Horn, Maurer studied prehistory with Richard Pittioni at the University of Vienna . He has been a scientist since 1970. His main research interests are the prehistory and early history of Eastern Austria, in particular the Neolithic and the late Iron Age of the Waldviertel . He documented the horizon of linear ceramics in front of the notehead ceramics and the late Iron Age and early historical iron smelting for the Manhartsberg area and put the Mödling-Zöbing-Jevišovice formation (type, culture) up for discussion as well as the late Iron Age type Kamegg-Poigen-Maiersch in several publications . An extensive chapter of his research is devoted to the art of linear ceramics and the Lengyel culture .

Furthermore, he deals with religious folklore (devotional pictures, pilgrimage). There are also fundamental publications on the pilgrimage sites of Maria Dreieichen , Maria Taferl , Sonntagberg and Maria Roggendorf . Maurer also published on original images and on evidence of multiple site pilgrimages.

About 1,000 of his publications are available in regional and scientific publications. He participated in special exhibitions at Zwettl Abbey ( Die Kuenringer , 1981), the Höbarthmuseum in Horn, ( Idole , 1998/99; The Bauer Collection , 2002) and Klosterneuburg Abbey ( Zeichenstein and Wunderbaum , 2000). In 1985 and 1989, Maurer organized specialist conferences in Pulkau and Asparn an der Zaya in cross-border cooperation with the relevant institutions in Prague and Brno . Lecturing at home and abroad. Maurer works in several local history and scientific associations and was the editor and editor of the “Horner Blätter zur Prehistory”, the “Horner Schriften zur Ur- und Frühgeschichte”, the “Bulletin of the Society for Pre- and Early History” and “Mannus”.

Honors

In January 2001 he was appointed professor by the Federal President because of his extraordinary achievements in the fields of sociology and art history . The Silver Badge of Honor followed in 2002 as an award from the federal state of Lower Austria .
