Hermann Schmitt

Hermann Schmitt (born May 22, 1874 in Dresden , † April 28, 1932 in St. Blasien ) was a German lawyer and in 1923 the incumbent Saxon interior minister.

Live and act

Hermann Schmitt was the son of Rudolf Schmitt , professor of chemistry at the Dresden Polytechnic and namesake of the Kolbe-Schmitt reaction .

He studied law in Munich and Leipzig and obtained his doctorate in 1897. jur. After studying in Paris, he entered the Saxon administrative service in 1903. From 1918 to 1922 he was ministerial director of the 1st department in the Saxon Ministry of the Interior, and in January 1923 he retired.

From October 29, 1923 to October 31, 1923 he was entrusted by the Reich Commissioner for the Free State of Saxony as Reich Commissioner in place of Hermann Liebmann with the management of the business as the incumbent Saxon Interior Minister. From October 1927 he worked as a department head at Reichsparkommissar Friedrich Saemisch .

In 1924 he became an honorary professor at the Technical University of Dresden and received the title of Dr.-Ing. Eh awarded. In 1924 he was appointed honorary senator of the TH Dresden.

Schmitt was chairman of the supervisory board of Chemischen Fabrik v. Heyden in Radebeul , member of the supervisory board of Sachsenwerke Licht und Kraft AG and the bank for the brewing industry . In addition, he was chairman of the Society of Friends and Sponsors of the Technical University of Dresden and President of the Dresden Administrative Academy.

As early as 1916, the "Rosenplatz" in the "Blumensiedlung" in Niedersedlitz was renamed "Hermann-Schmitt-Platz" at the request of the Dresden-Land building cooperative in recognition of its work there.
