Hermann Wagner (doctor)

Hermann Wagner (born June 13, 1942 in Stettin ) is a German gastroenterologist , endocrinologist and diabetologist and professor of internal medicine at the  Westphalian Wilhelms University  in Münster .

Life

Wagner grew up in Bielefeld and, after graduating from high school in  1962, began  studying human medicine  at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz at the Helmholtz grammar school there  . In 1964, after completing his physics course, he moved to the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster, where he passed the medical state examination in 1967. At the same time he did his doctorate on the subject of "Studies on the pharmacological influence of connective tissue - examination of the effect of so-called coronary dilators and anti-inflammatory drugs on sulfomucopolysaccharide and protein metabolism and on the growth of granulation tissue".

From the beginning of 1968 to the end of 1969, Wagner was a medical assistant at the Universities of Münster and Ulm. During this time he completed a six-month research stay with Ernst-Friedrich Pfeiffer (endocrinology and metabolism) at the University of Ulm .

In 1970 he became a research assistant at the Clinic and Polyclinic for Internal Medicine (Director Werner Heinrich Hauss) at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster. As early as the end of 1969 he began to set up and manage the hormone laboratory of the medical clinic and polyclinic as well as the entire clinic of the University of Münster until the end of 1984.

In 1974 he received his  habilitation  on the subject of "Endocrine-Metabolic Disorders in Arteriosclerosis" and he was appointed private lecturer . In the following year he was appointed senior physician at the clinic and polyclinic for internal medicine and in June 1976 he received his specialist certification for internal medicine, which was awarded in 1983 with the sub-area " Gastroenterology ", 1984 with the sub-area " Endocrinology " and 1997 with the Designation diabetologist DDG ( German Diabetes Society ) was added.

In 1977 he was appointed  adjunct professor  for internal medicine at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster. Two years later he was appointed senior physician at the clinic and polyclinic for internal medicine (department B) and in May 1982 he was appointed to the C3 professorship for life (endocrinology and metabolic diseases) at the clinic and polyclinic for internal medicine (department B ) at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität in Münster, which Wagner rejected that same year.

From 1983 to 2007 he was chief physician at the Medical Clinic I ( gastroenterology , endocrinology , metabolic diseases , oncology and hematology , infectious diseases ) and head of the clinical-chemical laboratory at the Weiden Clinic in Upper Palatinate ( teaching hospital of the University of Regensburg ).

Act

activities

Wagner organized and led 30 medical training symposia and gave around 100 scientific lectures. He gave approx. 100 advanced training lectures to doctors a. a. at events of the professional association of German internists (BDI) in Ischia , Tenerife , Pörtschach , Bad Kleinkirchheim and Meran .

From 1986 to 1997 he regularly organized and directed the annual Weiden Health Weeks, which he replaced from 1997 to 2007 with the Weiden Diabetic Days, which he continued to organize and manage.

Bodies

1972 to 1975 he was secretary of the Anglo-German Medical Society.

From 1985 to 2015 he was an examiner for specialists in internal medicine and chairman of the examination boards for all specialist medical specialties at the Bavarian State Medical Association in Munich .

Engagements

From 1994 to 1999 he founded the “Friends of the Outpatient and Clinical Cancer Treatment” at the Weiden Clinic in the Upper Palatinate (today: “Friends of the Seriously Sick” at the Weiden Clinic) and took over the 1st chairmanship.

He is or was a member of the following societies: Professional Association of German Internists (BDI), German Society for Digestive and Metabolic Diseases , German Society for Gerontology , German Society for Rheumatology , German Society for Endocrinology , German Diabetes Society , German Working Group for Connective Tissue Research and German -English Doctors' Association (Anglo-German Medical Society).

Trivia

In 1989 he was the founding president of the Schwanhof Golf Club, Weiden in the Upper Palatinate .

He was also the founding representative of Rotary for the establishment of a Rotary club with women, which resulted in the establishment of the RC Weiden-Max Reger in 2009 (Charter 2010).

Publications

Wagner was the author and co-author of 50 reviews in magazines and specialist books, some of which were published in several editions and in French and Italian in addition to German.

A “standard work” for nursing professions is his specialist book “Internal Medicine for Nursing Professions” , Thieme Verlag , Stuttgart , which he first published in 1981 in collaboration with Ulrich Gerlach and Wilhelm Wirth. The 8th edition of the book was published in 2015 by Thieme Verlag , Stuttgart and the French edition in 2001 by Maloine Verlag, Paris .

One of the few textbooks for internal medicine especially for dentists, "Internal Medicine for Dentists", 1st edition 1997 with Norbert van Husen and 2nd edition 2011 with Michael Fischereder published by Thieme Verlag, Stuttgart. In 1998 the Italian edition was published by Micarelli Editore Verlag, Rome .

In 2013, with Wagner as head of the advisory board, “Netters Internal Medicine” was published as the 2nd edition by Thieme Verlag, Stuttgart.

Wagner was also the author and co-author of 200 original papers (published in specialist journals such as Metabolism, Hormone and Metabolic Research, Klinische Wochenschrift, German Medical Wochenschrift, Münchner Medical Wochenschrift, Journal of Clinical Chemistry and Clinical Biochemistry, Medical World, Zeitschrift für Rheumatologie, Arzneimittelforschung ).
